The Truth in Great Expectations
The truth about expectations is that we set expectations for ourselves that often too high or unreachable. Other people set expectations for us, people like teachers and parents, that pressure us so much, we end up evolving into the person they want us to be and not the person we want to become. However, in this novel, Pip experiences just the opposite. He evolves into too much of his own person and not enough of what Joe wanted him to become.

They cannot be avoided, but instead we must face them and defeat ignorance with education. The real truth is that the world is not as pretty and perfect as we set it up to be.
